Recently, Manuel Merolla began a three-month visit to our group to collaborate with Prof. Filipe Rodrigues on defining a data integration framework for sustainable mobility. His research activities at DTU will deal with the implementation of a crowdsourced-based model able to find the common ground between subjective data (collected through citizens’ reports/proposals) and objective data (deducible from GIS, sensors, smartphones, and other devices for traffic and road safety data collection).

Manuel is a Ph.D. Student in Infrastructures and Transport from the Department of Civil, Building and Environmental Engineering of Sapienza University of Rome. He also collaborates at CTLup (startup of Sapienza’s Research Centre for Transport and Logistics, CTL) in the role of Communications Manager. In December 2024, he won a scholarship in the context of Sapienza’s call for the financing of three-month mobility periods abroad for doctoral students, which allowed him to join his visit at DTU. During his stay, he will be involved in performing his background on data analytics and machine learning techniques for sustainable mobility data integration. Furthermore, his studies will be tested on specific case studies, concerning Danish municipalities that have adopted crowdsourcing activities on their websites, to find out the correlation between subjective and objective data and possible solutions to fix problems related to sustainable mobility in these municipalities.
