New member in our group: welcome Andrew!

Andrew (Dang Viet Anh) Nguyen recently joined our group as a PhD student and will be working on the “Proactive Traffic Control through AI and Big Data” project under the supervision of Filipe Rodrigues as the main supervisor and Carlos Lima Azevedo as the co-supervisor. His research at DTU will focus on developing a new generation of proactive traffic control approaches by integrating a novel fully-Bayesian context-aware traffic prediction model into a Reinforcement Learning (RL) framework.

Andrew graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with an MSc in Supply Chain and Logistics. Before joining our group, Andrew worked as a research engineer in intelligent systems and optimization at Singapore Management University, where he worked on integrating Deep Reinforcement Learning into Metaheuristics to solve variants of Vehicle Routing Problems.

We wish him a fun and productive time during his stay with us! 😊

Seminar by Wencan Mao

Wencan Mao recently visited our group as a Ph.D. student from Aalto University, Finland. She is cooperating with Rico Kruger from our group.

New project in our group: congrats Francisco!

Villum synergy is a program aiming to strengthen interdisciplinary research and collaborations that combine methodological expertise within data science with domain expertise in other research areas such as technical, natural, or social sciences. This year, 15 projects have been selected and awarded a grant of DKK 3 million each to enhance such collaborations.

Alysha Chamadia recently joined our group as a PhD student and will be working jointly on the eMotional Cities and IntraUrban projects with Otto Anker Nielsen as main supervisor, and Carlos Lima Azevedo and Jesper Ingvardson as co-supervisors. Her research is focused on human-centered modeling of urban mobility and travel behavior.

Seminar by Bianca Pascariu

As part of her visit to DTU, Bianca Pascariu presented her work on Integrating passenger demand prediction in real-time rail traffic management to the Division for Transportation Science.

New member in our group: welcome Samitha!

Samitha Samaranayake recently joined our group for a year as a Guest Professor from Cornell University.

Samitha’s research interest is in mathematical modeling and algorithm design for large-scale transportation network problems, and his current focus is on problems at the intersection of public transit and ride-sharing. In particular, he is interested in hybrid transit systems—services that are designed from the ground-up to fully integrate traditional fixed-line public transit and agile, demand-responsive modes.

New member in our group: welcome Nina!

Nina Friser Holst has recently joined both our group and the Human Behaviour Section as a Research Assistant. Nina has a MA. Psych. from the University of Copenhagen and has a vast experience as a clinical psychologist. She will be working with Carlos Lima Azevedo and Sonja Haustein on both the eMOTIONAL Cities and the URGENT projects, where her research will focus on human behavioural experiments relating mobility choices and associated mental mechanisms and emotions.
